Hygromycin B Solution is an aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus that inhibits protein synthesis in prokaryotes, fungi, and higher eukaryotes. Hygromycin B Solution is used for the selection and maintenance of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells transformed to contain the hygromycin B resistance gene.
Resistance to hygromycin B is conferred by the E. coli hygromycin B resistance gene (hyg or hph). Lastly, Hygromycin B has a different mode of action than Blasticidin S or G-418 selection reagents, making it an excellent choice for dual-selection experiments.
