Gentamicin Sulfate for cell culture is a water-soluble, broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic. This ready-to-use Gentamicin Sulfate Solution is commonly added to cell culture media to prevent contamination with gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and comes in a concentration of 10 mg/ml.
Gentamicin was originally purified from Micromonospora purpurea. It acts by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and death in susceptible bacteria. Gentamicin Sulfate can furthermore be used as a selection antibiotic in molecular biology applications. This gentamicin for cell culture has been tested for performance with various cell lines and is suitable for use on primary cells.
