Phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), commonly used in biological experiments, is a buffer solution with a pH of approximately 7,4. It helps maintain a constant pH and is isotonic, meaning that it matches the osmolarity and ion concentrations of the human body.
As it is non-toxic to most cells, it is often used to dilute substances and rinse cells. In combination with EDTA, it serves to declump cells.
The formulation of the LONZA 10X PBS is 0.017 M KH2PO4, 0.05 M Na2HPO4, 1.5 M NaCl, pH 7.4.
